Baptism Congratulations! Traditionally, for Christians, the arrival of a new baby means a baptism. That is part of our heritage, part of the special inheritance of your child. At the heart of baptism, is the initiation into membership of the Christian community — the Church. To be baptised is to become a Christian and experience for life both the blessings and the responsibilities of that commitment. As a parent, you will make promises on behalf of your child. The parish wants to welcome you and your child in the traditional way. Please get in touch with Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish as soon as possible in order to allow plenty of time and reflection before making this commitment on behalf of your child.

Weddings Preliminaries - Please get in touch with Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish as soon as possible in order to allow plenty of time to plan for your wedding. Most couples start a year before they intend to get married. A minimum of six months notice is required for a wedding at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. It is your own responsibility to contact your local Registrar for Marriages etc. in order to obtain the requisite Civil Certificate, without which you cannot be married. The Registrar will provide you with a blue form which you must give to the parish priest well before the wedding is due to take place.

Marriage Preparations - You are required to attend a number of preparatory meetings before you get married in order to make sure that you understand the marriage vows you will be taking, and the obligations and responsibilities you are undertaking in your married life. These have to be completed before your wedding, and can either be arranged informally as meetings at church, or they can be arranged together with other engaged couples in more formal meetings arranged by the local deanery. A practice session will also be needed in the church on the Thursday evening before your wedding so that you will feel confident about the service itself.

Catholic weddings require extensive planning, once again, get in touch with Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish as soon as possible in order to allow plenty of time to plan for your wedding.
